Buckeye State Baby Names

Ava and Jacob were the most popular names given to Ohio newborns from 2006 to 2008.

Various resources exist on national and state trends in baby names. However, because CRP has access to raw vital statistics data from the Ohio Department of Health, we were able to analyze baby name patterns at the county and regional levels within Ohio.

For CRP’s seventh Data Byte, we explore in detail patterns and variations in baby names across Ohio. Although the data doesn’t explain why these variations exist, the Data Byte suggests the possible influences of local celebrities and cultural heritage on baby names.
