Contribute towards a healthy 2018 by tracking data!

We are four months deep into 2018 - how are your New Year’s resolutions going? If you decided, like many others, to dedicate 2018 towards a better you, specifically with the goal to improve personal health, there are a few resources that use the power of data to help you achieve your goals!

As we all know, what you put into your body has an enormous effect upon reaching your health goal.  An effective strategy I have used, and continue to do so, is to track what I eat.  Meal tracking allows the ability to set, track, and benchmark nutrition, weight loss/gain, and exercise goals, and is easy to do with apps like MyFitnessPal.

This may seem like an advertisement for MyFitnessPal, however I have utilized all its benefits with the free version.  With an easy function for searching and logging the food you eat (you can even create your own recipes), the app keeps track of your calories and nutrients, displaying them for you to monitor your progress.

Meal tracking is not the only way data can help you attain a healthier lifestyle; other apps can assist in tracking health-related items such as sleep. The app Pillow measures and tracks sleep quality, giving you a better idea of your sleep habits and ways in which you can improve. Whether for sleep or nutrition, the ability to visualize and reflect upon health-related data is a great place to see how you are meeting your goals, as well as motivation to help you maintain your success.

If you’re dedicating yourself to a healthier 2018, a great place to start is by tracking data! Make it easier with apps like MyFitnessPal to harness the power of self-awareness and progress to do so!
